Giving The Word Of God
By Lois J. Stucky
Our Lord Jesus Christ said: "He that heareth My Word and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life" (John 5:24). Those who hear, believe and obey the Word of the Lord pass from death unto life, and become heirs of eternal life! (John 3:16). What greater blessings could Christians ask?
And many gladly testify of the gains they meet with as they travel through their earthly lives as they appropriate the promises of God’s Word and submit to the corrections and obey the instructions found therein: destructive pitfalls and shame avoided, forgiveness for sins granted to the repentant, conscience cleared, fears dissolved, sorrows comforted, guidance given, wisdom obtained, hope kept alive and growing, joys kindled to overflowing, peace in the midst of storms, zeal inspired to useful service, and on and on goes the list. Through the Word we come to know and experience the wonderful Father, Son and Holy Spirit in more and more intimate ways. Great, great thanks is due our God for His Word, the blessed revelation of Himself and His ways!
Our Lord Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Words shall not pass away" (Matt. 24:35). As the hymn says, "How firm a foundation is laid for your faith in His excellent Word…." Surely Christians need a firm foundation in these days when much is sliding downward, crumbling into the dust or proving false. And are not these the days spoken of in 1 Timothy 4:1 when "…some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils"? A brother from Africa wrote to the Herald: "The devil has tried to destroy my spiritual life through spiritual deception, not open sin."
Serving Together through Herald of His Coming
From its beginnings, Herald of His Coming has upheld the Bible as the inspired Word of God, and has promoted it as the pattern and standard for Christians to believe and to obey. A reader of Herald of His Coming in a recent letter gave thanks to the Lord for His divine grace poured on Herald of His Coming to diligently and accurately present "the nonnegotiable, undiluted and undeniable Word of God." We of the Herald feel a tremendous responsibility to present God’s Word in its purity and truth and power. Please do agree with us in prayer for the Herald ministry to be ever and absolutely true to God and to His Word.
And does not the Spirit of God move our hearts to share this wonderful Word as far and wide as He enables? The love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Spirit does not let us be content to hug such treasure to ourselves when so many have a hunger for it and languish or perish without it. A brother from Africa writes that after he reads his copy of the Herald, he takes it to a prison yard "where the condemned eat it like food." God has bountifully blessed us that we might be a blessing to others. Many are those who write to Herald of His Coming to say how helpful the messages have been in the maturing of their spiritual lives. The prayer life of many has been heightened and their love for the Lord has been rekindled. All glory to Him whose Life is in His Word to make it nourishing and strengthening to His Church! He is preparing the bride for the Bridegroom, His beloved Son.
All Herald readers who send supporting gifts are deeply appreciated. We seek to prove true to the trust that you put in the Herald ministry as you send your donations. We endeavor to keep operating expenses to a minimum that we might "put the money into the message." Please pray with us for continued support with the funds required to maintain and increase the output of spiritual messages as the Lord leads.
And always we invite and depend on the prayers of Herald readers to seek from God His mighty blessing on His Word, that it will accomplish all that which pleases Him. God’s Word is "quick and powerful" or "living and active" (Heb. 4:12). Through it men are born again (1 Pet. 1:23). It is "profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect [complete]…" (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
Praise God –
...That His Word is "perfect…sure…right…pure…clean…true and righteous…sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb" (Psalm 19:7-10).
Please Pray –
...That many readers will be mightily helped through this issue of Herald of His Coming, because God’s blessing is on it.
...That distributors of Herald of His Coming papers will not grow weary in this service they have undertaken for God, but will be inspired to faithfulness by knowing that their labor is not in vain in the Lord (1 Cor. 15:58).
...That God will protect and encourage our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering persecution or imprisonment or martyrdom for His sake, and that they will glorify Him in the fires. * That God will give sustaining grace to those who are faithfully persevering in prayer for worldwide revival! "Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise" (Heb. 10:35-36).
