To Bless We Must Bleed
By Sarah Foulkes Moore
The work of the Lord needs YOUR BLOOD. Always we must bleed to bless. Cain’s offering was a bloodless one. Abel’s offering was a blood sacrifice. It was Abel’s blood sacrifice that drew the fire of God.
So many of our offerings to the Lord are like Cain’s – bloodless ones. They represent no slaying of self – no drawing of blood in giving up our self-love and our self-indulgent ways. So much of our time and money is consumed on fleshly lusts instead of in all-consuming desire to get the Gospel to the lost and dying.
God wants offerings that are without reservation – whole and burnt – burnt by the sacred flame of God. And not only our offerings of time, talent and life itself, but our very gifts touched by the sacrificial flame.
God harden me against myself,
The coward with pathetic voice
Who craves for ease, and rest, and joys:
Myself, arch-traitor to myself…Yet
One there is Who can curb myself….
O Christ, Break off the yoke and
Set me free from Self!
