Ripening For Judgment!

By W. C. Moore (1890 – 1980)

The need above all other needs is for a God-sent revival, a return to our first love, a humbling of our souls in the dust of broken-hearted confession and deep and real repentance – because we have all failed God.

Never in all history has the world been in such a judgment-ripe condition as it is now – with sin abounding in high places and in low, in public and in secret.  Oh, for a revival of repentance and of righteousness to save our beloved land and to sweep the world!

Oh, for every moment of time, every particle of energy to be thrown into the gigantic battle of prayer – to pray down a Holy Ghost revival with terrific conviction on sin!  Oh, for God to pour out the Spirit of grace and of supplications upon His church around the world! (Zech. 12:10).

Will you do your part, will I do mine – so that God can save multitudes, multitudes of souls in the valley of decision? (Joel 3:14).

Can we not, by His grace, eliminate a lot of idle conversation, a great deal of the useless things we are doing and give ourselves continually to prayer, to real soul-travail for revival? (Acts 6:4; Isa. 66:8). “…Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2).

Soon it will be too late.  We must act now while opportunity knocks loudly at our heart’s door, while the needs of a lost world and the pitiful, shameful spectacle of a lukewarm church press us to the greatest urgency we have ever known!

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Gal. 6:7). “…They have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind…” (Hos. 8:7).

God is not mocked!  Judgment hangs over a Christ-rejecting world of men.  Oh, to pitch into the battle for souls now!  Oh, to watch our time, our strength, our heart-interests and make first things first!  Oh, to seek the Lord, till He come and rain righteousness upon us! (Hos. 10:12).

Stir Up Ourselves

Let us not wait for God to send His judgments upon us.  Let us with fiery zeal – each and every one of us – stir up ourselves (Isa. 64:7) and take hold of God and not let Him go, except He bless us with revival! (Gen. 32:26).  Let us sigh, let us cry, for all the abominations that are being done today, and thus have God’s mark of protection upon us (Ezek. 9:4-6).  Judgment must begin at the house of God (1 Pet. 4:17).

Men, women, children of God, let us set our faces to seek the Lord (Dan. 9:1-23).  Let us be whole-souled and wholehearted!  We must have revival!

Let us cast aside niceties, frivolities, joking, lightness of spirit, indifference, self-indulgence, unbelief, procrastination, idleness, harshness, censoriousness – and by God’s grace let us put our very heart, our time, our full strength into this urgent matter of praying down Holy Ghost conviction on sin until lazy Christians (Matt. 5:13) and out-and-out sinners are all so convicted of sin that they will cry out to God for mercy!

Let us set ourselves to the work of praying down a Holy Ghost revival!  To the task of world-evangelization through world revival!  To the mighty business in dead earnest – of gathering in earth’s huge harvest of souls before the Judgment storm breaks in all its fury!  The need is so vast, the opportunity we have is so tremendous, the pitiful state of the church is so unutterable – “Oh, that my lips could utter the thoughts that arise in me!”

Oh, for a multitude to spring into action as though the living Christ Himself, with eyes as a flame of fire, and a voice as the sound of many waters, were actually seen and His voice distinctly heard by those with ears to hear.  This is the greatest crisis of all history.  This is a day of opportunities so vast that the human mind cannot conceive the import of what might be done, what ought to be done in these moments to earth’s midnight!
